I have been getting the following error msg. when I attempt to archive my
mail folders and have been having a problem retrieving or finding my .pst
folder.
I really could use some help in understanding the process.

Error while archiving folder "Top of Information Store" in store "Mailbox -
Richard Mahan". You are attempting to archive your data to a Microsoft
Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst) which is a non-Unicode data
file. To preserve multilingual data, you must choose a Unicode data file,
such as the Microsoft Office Outlook Personal Folders File (.pst). See Help
for more information.

Error while archiving folder "Deleted Items" in store "MSN". Problems with
the destination store C:\Documents and Settings\Richard Mahan\My
Documents\Outlook Archive\archive2.pst.

Error while archiving folder "Sent Items" in store "MSN". Problems with the
destination store C:\Documents and Settings\Richard Mahan\My
Documents\Outlook Archive\archive2.pst.

Dear Kathleen, thanks for your input. you may be right, at least the error
message I have been getting, points to that possibility and mentions the
fact that the files must be in a unicode format and that earlier versions of
outlook are not in a unicode format. which could be the problem. off the
private network when I attemp to archive my folders to my documents folder
on my personal computer. which is an earlier version of Outlook (Outlook
2002) what would you suggest to fix this problem, short of upgrading my
version of outlook on my personal computer? it appears to be quite
complicated.

Are you trying to synchronize Outlook at work with Outlook at home? I'm not
sure I understand what you're trying to achieve.

In my business, I receive a good amount of email daily from my clients and
often receive warnings from the network administrator that I have exceeded
my mailbox limit. I am just trying to archive my email that I have responded
to without permanently deleted them. I would like to save them to a personal
folder, in the event I would have to recover the information. I guess I
don't really have an understanding of the whole process..

I am simply trying to backup my email without permanently deleteing them. In
my business, I receive a large amount of mail that requires a response from
me.
I frequently getting warnings from the network administrator that my mailbox
has exceeded the limit. I need to know how to move this email to a folder
that I can retreive these emails if necessary.

Hi Richard
The best thing I can recommend in that case is to create a PST (add the
Personal Folder option to your profile, this can be done in the control panel
using the mail applet), then drag and drop your mail to the PST. The PST is
stored locally on your laptop/PC. You still want to archive of course and you
can create a new archive for your version of Outlook 2003.
You may want to occasionally back up your PST's, either copy them up to a
network drive (your home drive or whatever it's called) or burn it to CD,
however you would like to store it. However do NOT use the PST across the
network since this can cause corruption since Outlook requires read/write
access to the file, if it's kept on a network share and the connection is
interrupted you can run into problems. All you want to do is store a copy on
the network so that it's backed up, unless you back it up yourself.

What it looks like to me is that you're trying to archive your data to
archive files from versions of Outlook older than 2003?
