I can't get Outlook to connect properly to my POP3 email. When
sending and receiving, I can send just fine, but as soon as it gets to
receive, the user name/password prompt pops up. All information is
correct, but the box repeatedly pops up until I hit cancel. After I
cancel, I get this error message:
"Task 'pop.central.cox.net - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) :
'Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and
password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail
accounts. The server responded: -ERR invalid user name or password.'"
I am absolutely certain that the user name and password are correct,
as well as the POP3 and SMTP, and I followed the instructions provided
by CoxMail to the letter. I tried using Outlook Express, but it gave
me the same error message.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I did as you suggested (I think I've now tried every variation of the
user name possible), but didn't have any luck. I can check the web-
based email just fine, using the same password as I'm trying to use
for Outlook. I'll give my ISP a ring, but in the mean time, any other
ideas?

Sorry I'm so slow in responding. All I get is "Connecting To
pop.central.cox.net..." for a while, then the whole window
disappears. I really appreciate your help!

Make sure you don't have port 110 blocked in your firewall for outbound
traffic. You should have seen something like this:
C:\> telnet pop.central.cox.net
Connecting to pop.central.cox.net.
+OK InterMail POP3 server ready.

Thanks for all your help. The ISP ended up having me use a different
pop which is working perfectly..
