I have just installed Outlook 2013, after using Thunderbird for some time. I have set up several accounts in Outlook, and what I want to be able to do is this:

1. Send messages from individual accounts as and when I choose.
2. Receive messages in individual accounts as and when I choose.
3. Receive without sending, and send without receiving.

Each of those things I would want to do without Outlook automatically doing any other sending or receiving.

These functions are all available simply in Thunderbird. For example, right clicking on an account and then "get new messages" would get the new messages addressed to that account, without sending any that may be waiting in that account's outbox, and without doing anything with regard to other accounts.

I feel sure Outlook 2013 must provide the same facility, but I find Send/Receive and the concept of "groups" confusing.

I am ploughing through help files without much success.

A satisfactory answer would be appreciated.
