I use Outlook only for the Contacts section; we use Outlook Express for
email. We have Windows XP for our operating system. Yesterday morning I
opened Outlook (from a desktop icon) and used the Contacts book; it worked
fine. Yesterday afternoon it wouldn't open. I've been trying to figure it
out ever since. When I click on the icon I get the little hourglass for a
few seconds and then it just fades away and nothing happens. No message,
nothing. I haven't shut the computer down since yesterday morning as I'm
really afraid of losing my only contacts information. Any suggestions would
be appreciated. Thanks!

I have Outlook 2007 on my new tablet and also my associate too. We each
loaded a copy of office pro from disks we had on our previous tablets. These
new ones are Lenovos.

Alll works well, all updates are done but for some reason neither one of us
can copy from an email in the inbox reading screen.

The only way to tak information from the reading screen on the right is to
hit reply and then you can. if you dont do it that way all you see is the
hand when you try to copy. Any ideas ???

Hi,

I'm having a couple of problems since installing Outlook Connector. I'm
running Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 with IE8 and Office 2007 Ultimate.

Prior to installing Outlook Connector, Outlook and Hotmail were always
synchronized. If I deleted an email from Outlook or moved it to a local
folder, the email was removed from the Hotmail Inbox on the Hotmail server.
Since installing Outlook Connector, this does not happen anymore. I have to
remember to physically delete and clean up the emails o the server by
logging in to Hotmail via IE.
Recently, I noticed that many of my emails suddenly become blank. The text,
Subject, Date, etc. are all blanked out except for the Sender which is set
to "None". All such emails are still on the server and are accessible
directly via IE. One noteworthy change is that I recently changed my cell
phone to a BlackBerry Tour 9630 and set up my Hotmail account on the Tour.
However, I only ever delete emails from the "Handheld", never the server,
and, as mentioned above, the emails are still on the server. Even more
bizarre, I have refrained from deleting emails on the Tour, period. Still
emails got blanked out.

The questions are: (1) How can I keep the server and Outlook synchronized;
and (2) How can I prevent this random blanking of some emails?

Thanks very much.

Windows Vista Home Premium, all updates applied. When one attempts to open
Outlook, it fails. The message reads:
"...Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.
The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Personal Folders(1).pst. Quit
Outlook and all mail-enabled applications and then use the Inbox repair tool
(Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more
information about the Inbox repair tool see Help..."

Any ideas welcomed.

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if someone could help me with this...

I had a search and couldnt find anything on here.

Im making a phone list for work and want to place a direct link to it from the 'Folders list in Outlook 2007.

I can share the list and apply the relevant permissions to people so that they can view it but not change it, but they have to navigate to the contacts section and then choose the shared list i have sent them. Not a hard task but it would be nice to just have a direct link to it from their folder list, so they can be in their inbox and click straight to it.

If anyone can advise me of how to reate a link to it, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have attached a picture as to where i would like the direct link to the list; Marked by a red *

Cheers,

When I insert a picture or a Microsoft Object (e.g., Excel Worksheet Object),
everything looks good, but when I click on Send the picture and/or object is
enlarged to 333% and the email is sent. Note that I won't know if this has
happened unless I open the sent email. Also, this happens about 60% of the
time. Sometimes I'll have two objects/pictures in the same email, only one
of which is enlarged.

Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to stop it (other than
discontinuing using Word as the email editor)?

I'm using Outlook 2003 (with Word 2003 as my email editor).

Thanks.

I run a small network with mixed users of Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007. Until recently each user on the network stored mail in its own local PST file however mail was controlled via our e-mail server (Softalk Mail Server) which collected mail for each users account from our ISP. Each users Outlook then queried the mail server to bring in e-mail it had collected.

In order to create a centralised mail store I have installed and configured another of Softalk products (Softalk Share Server) which provides a collaboration and centralised mail store alternative to Exchange.

Since using this centralised mail store a problem has occurred which I thought must be an issue with the Softalk Share Server software, however when googling the problem it seems that many people have the same issue when a centralised mail store is used, such as Exchange or similar but I cannot find a resolution.

Now, when an e-mail arrives in a users inbox, if it is deleted before it is read (ie it has been viewed in the preview pane, deemed as rubbish, but the e-mail has not been opened) then a second after it is deleted it reappears back in the inbox. There are only two ways in which the users can remove the e-mail (again) as selecting the re-appeared e-mail and pressing delete again does not work, a message box comes up saying something like "the selected object could not be located" If however the user shift-deletes the re-appeared e-mail then they will be asked if they want to permanently delete the e-mail, they say yes and the mail does delete for a second time. The other way of making the re-appeared e-mail disappear is to select another folder within the outlook folders such as deleted items or sent items or any other folder and then return to the inbox, then the reappeared e-mail has gone. This to me seems to be some sort of Outlook refresh issue which I cannot get to the bottom of. Softalk are stumped and do not know why it is happening and as I say, when I google this problem there are many people having exactly the same issue who do not use Softalk but another centralised mail store such as exchange or something else. I would be grateful if anyone here can shed some light on why this might be happening and any potential solutions. Thank you.

One of the users where I work is having a strange problem with his Outlook
2003 w/ Business Contact Manager. Some e-mails (not all) are coming in with
the "From" and Subject lines blank. But, where someone else here is cc'd on
it, the e-mail shows up fine in THEIR Outlook.

Now, some of the e-mails are garbage judging by what is there when they are
opened, but we got one today that is a Proof of Payment" (opened perfectly,
all information showing properly, just no "from" or subject). This email is
kind of important. If I check the persons e-mail using webmail, the e-mails
are fine. But they don't show up right in their Outlook.

Any ideas what could be causing this? The Outlook in completely up to date.
Although, he did get an error once that his Outlook and Word are different
versions, but they are both 2003, installed at the same time off the same
disks.

Thanks in advance.

SYMPTOM:
This happens whether the default editor is HTML, Rich Text or Plain Text.
Any Email message that have Office documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF’s)
attached in the body of the message will not drag and drop or copy from the
message to the desktop as the intended file. Instead you are presented with

Outlook Sync / Cached - MRM, Email Retention [message #649616] Thu, 11 March 2010 12:42

Hello - we recently deployed MRM (Email Retention) ... basic settings are 60
days Inbox, 2 years "Managed Folders" ... items are moved to Deleted Items
and then 30 days later, they are purged from Deleted Items (allow recovery).
There's more, but doesn't matter for this discussion/question.

When this was deployed, we found many users had tons of data (GB's) moved
from Managed Folders to the Deleted Items folder (as expected, very old
msgs). All of our clients run in Cached Mode, so when the users came in the
first day after MRM implementation, it took hours and hours for their
cached/ost client to synchronize with the server. This also caused a big
impact to the network. The first day was the only big hit, all days since (7
days) have been fine ... it was really just that first run of MRM that got
all the very old msgs.

So, as mentioned above, Deleted Items folder is set to 30 days ... after 30
days, the items will be purged (allow recovery). My question is: since this
is a purge (not moving data within the ost/mailbox), would you think the
same, big network impact, would occur when user synchronizes cached/ost with
server after all this data is purged from the users mailbox?

My initial thought is "no" ... the server is deleting data, it doesn't need
to move alot of 5-10MB msgs from Managed Folders or Inbox to the Deleted
Items folder. It simply needs to sync the deletions from the Deleted Items
folder.

Would like your thoughts ... thank you.

I noticed that on my personal PC one of the largest files I have is my Microsoft Outlook 2007 .pst files. It's where MS Outlook stores all my archived emails.

I'd like to learn how to MOVE this file to my HOME NETWORK SERVER and POINT MS Outlook to archive all my .pst files at this location thus freeing up my local PC from these HUGE files.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I am getting the above error when trying to set up an email address as the default one. I am using Windows 7 and just starting to set up email accounts. One account was set as the default but it is not the one I wish to be the default one. I have also tried using the up arrows to move the email address I want to the top but again get this message.
Thank you for any help.

I tried many ways of executing a .bat file attachment from outlook 2007 in
windows 7. I tried the registry ( Level1Remove) option , tried with the
outlook tool and did a research on this isssue. But still i am not able to
run a .bat file attachment from outlook 2007 in Windows7. This works in Xp
with Outlook 2007.Is this a permanent change in Windows 7? Is there any way
to allow bat file to run from outlook 2007 in windows 7?

Does anyone have a solution to this? We are seeing multiple users in our
organization sending out messages that seem to be formatted fine, but
recipients see the text like this:

Ar e you s t ill aliv e down t h e r e ?

The format gets so scrambled that it is extremely difficult to read. The
users that see this are using Outlook 2003 running on XP SP3. Backend is
Exchange 2003. We have tried with and without Word as the email editor, we
have tried HTML and plain text. We have also tried Inbox repair and starting
from a fresh PST.
