Hotmail customers saw their accounts automatically switch over to Outlook.

The software has undergone a host of changes recently with the web client receiving an aesthetic overhaul back in September.

The new look is bold, modern and places important information such as contacts at the forefront for easier accessibility.

The tool now suggest search terms based on email threads in an attempt to predict what a user is looking for.

"We recognise that people use many apps on their devices and quickly switch between apps to complete tasks."

It was also detailed that "sensory feedback" has been added to the app to bring changes in "colour, shape and iconography" and make it clearer when a user is performing a particular action.

Moreover, the software's calendar icon is now animated, meaning it will move as the user scrolls through different days and appointments.

Microsoft has emphasised the rollout of the new update is taking place "over the next few weeks", meaning not all users be able to take advantage of the redesign immediately.
